Also known as Persimmons are the edible fruit. Sharon Fruit is a variety of persimmon that can be enjoyed in the crunchy semi-ripe stage or soft ripe stage. This sweet seedless fruit is orange-red in colour with green calyx, and resembles an acorn or tomato in shape. The skin has a waxy finish. Persimmon is believed to have a host of nutritional and health benefits, and is a good source of dietary fiber. Compared to apples, persimmons have higher levels of dietary fiber, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron and manganese, but lower levels of copper and zinc. They also contain vitamin C and provitamin A beta-carotene.
